Medium Priority State SB 6110

Support Clear E-Moto Definitions & Trail Rules.

State leaders are evaluating legislation to address the rapid rise of high-powered electric motorcycles (e-motos) on non-motorized trails. Evergreen supported SB 6110 to help clarify these definitions.

What's at Stake

High-speed e-motos tear up bicycle trail tread and threaten the land access agreements Evergreen has spent decades securing. Clear legal definitions β€” and consistent enforcement β€” keep non-motorized trails safe for everyone.

Background

Washington law restricts motor vehicles on non-motorized trails, but the rapid rise of high-powered electric motorcycles (e-motos) has outpaced clear legal definitions and consistent enforcement. Riders, hikers, and land managers are increasingly confused about what's actually legal on non-motorized trails. Evergreen supported SB 6110 in the state legislature to help clarify the legal distinction between Class 1/2 eMTBs β€” which belong on many non-motorized trails β€” and high-powered e-motos, which do not. We're also asking state legislators and local officials to direct enforcement resources toward consistently applying these rules.
