Proposed federal changes could open pristine roadless areas to industrial development or apply blanket designations that restrict trail access. Tell federal land managers to protect human-powered recreation on historic singletrack.

What's at Stake

Broad designations without recreation protections can permanently lock bikes out of historic backcountry singletrack. Evergreen supports strong conservation paired with modern language that keeps existing bike trails open.

Background

The Roadless Area Conservation Rule protects nearly 60 million acres of national forest from new road construction — including large swaths of Washington backcountry. Proposed changes to the rule, or new blanket wilderness-style designations, could restrict or eliminate mountain bike access to trails that have existed for decades. Evergreen supports land conservation, but conservation designations must explicitly carve out protections for historic, sustainable, human-powered recreation — including mountain biking. We're working with the Outdoor Alliance and other trail-access groups to make sure that happens.
