Defend Non-Motorized Singletrack in USFS Travel Management.

The U.S. Forest Service is evaluating motorized vehicle access across several national forest districts. Unvetted expansion into non-motorized zones threatens trail safety and quiet backcountry riding.

Unvetted expansion of motorized access into non-motorized zones leads to trail damage, safety conflicts, and the loss of quiet backcountry experiences that define our best singletrack.

Background

The U.S. Forest Service periodically updates Travel Management Plans that designate which roads and trails are open to motorized use across national forest districts. Several Washington districts are currently reviewing these designations. Evergreen is monitoring these reviews closely and submitting comments to ensure that dedicated non-motorized singletrack — much of it built and maintained by volunteers — stays protected from unauthorized or poorly-vetted motorized expansion.
