High Priority State

Protect State Outdoor Recreation Grant Funding.

State budget discussions threaten funding for crucial recreation grant programs like NOVA and WWRP β€” the primary funding engine for trail maintenance, trailheads, and new trail construction across Washington.

What's at Stake

State grants are the primary funding engine for major trail maintenance, trailhead facilities, and new trail construction across Washington. Cuts here stall trail projects statewide, not just in one region.

Background

Washington's Nonhighway and Off-Road Vehicle Activities (NOVA) program and the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) fund the majority of major trail construction, maintenance, and trailhead projects across the state β€” including many of the projects Evergreen chapters depend on. As the legislature works through budget priorities for the upcoming session, recreation grant funding is often an easy target for cuts. Evergreen is asking legislators to protect full funding for NOVA and WWRP as part of the state budget.
