This fantastic ride is just a few miles north of Winthrop.  The trail crosses a diversity of forest and open sagebrush meadows with expansive views of the Methow Valley and more distant Mountains.

The trail is generally snow-free between early May and late November. Most of the year the trail is firm, smooth and dry.  Early season there are localized muddy spots.  This trail crosses rangeland, so expect cattle and their leavings!

How to Find It

The ride starts near the MVSTA Cub Creek Trailhead.  From downtown Winthrop, take HWY 20 west for 0.2 mi and turn right onto the West Chewuch Rd.  Follow this road 5.7 miles to Cub Creek Rd (on left).  Turn left and follow for 1.7 miles where parking is available on the left.

Most of this ride is on land managed by the Okanogan National Forest.

Turn by Turn

 

This route is mapped on Amazing Maps West Methow Trails (Series MV-1).

From the parking area, continue up Cub Creek Rd, which turns into FS #52 (about 0.1 mi). Continue to first right turn (FS #100). Follow this road about 3.4 mi to the information sign titled "Deer Country".  There is a small double track logging road on the right, take this road and follow the obvious trail and signs.
